Call it good luck or superstition, today is a significant date. Some are cutting their carbon footprint, while others are getting married on this trifecta of perfection. This meaningful sequence even turns out to be binary code for the decimal number 42—which means, contra this cultural illiterate, quite the opposite of “absolutely nothing.” Unless one is feeling nihilistic, I suppose.

It is on this auspicious date that I welcome to what’s left of the planet my as yet unnamed number six niece. Thinking of her potentiality, it’s hard to tell: inherited ordeal or whatever being? The signs are depressing, but I’d have to be some jerk of an uncle not to grant her anonymous infancy. Who knows; maybe, having been born on the date of the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything, she might work out what the question is? Anyways … this song is for her.
